Greetings,
I am a Ham Radio operator in Eugene, OR. My interest in radio started as licensed CB user(KBPN-1418) and I went by 'Little John'. I was discouraged by the language and lack of courtesy though and wished for an alternative. Ham radio was the ticket I desired, but it was several years until I got around to studying for a license. I was first licensed as KB7VIQ on June 6, 1993. My Brother Cecil (KB7ZXH) and a group of us Friends had a repeater for years but due to inactivity we took it down. On March 14th 2007 my wife Kathy became KD7PJW and I became K7VIQ as we both took and passed the General exam together. We were unable able to get any decent HF equipment for years. Along with not having any real HF equip, I have not gotten on the air much due to local friends moving on from Ham radio we were inactive on ham for years. But I still love the idea of communicating with my Friends from around the world. Hey, things changed in March 2019, keep on scrolling for some updates:
I have been re-Ham energized due encouragement from a local Friend to pass my Extra on March 30, 2019, and at the same time making contact with Friends in a Portland, OR though a Yahoo tech group. I also reconnected with an old Friend from Echo Link and W2BN, Spiros in Thessaloniki, Greece(SV2EVS) and met some new Friends in Germany that all use DMR together. (My wife(KD7PJW) and I now have a DMR radio and MMDVM hotspot to keep in touch. Spiros has helped us beyond any expectatopns to help us get DMR working until the MMDR uite working.
Aug, 9,2019 - We are now re-setting up a new HF station with with a better HF rig, an Isotron antenna on a 43' telescoping TV mast(It replaces my aged pole + mast at 34'). Aug, 15, 2023 - Due to health and a lack of skill at getting the the Isotron antenna matched it is not working.
I have been practicing Morse code so I picked up a Bunnell AT&T Western Electric key and a cheap 3d printed double paddleto practice with. if I ever get it working, but the practice is still good for the brain. Early 2023 - I assembled a Kent Double paddle key.
