Born and raised in Timonium, Md, my first exposure to Ham Radio was through the Boy Scouts. I met Nelson Ross, who started to elmer me and sold me a old Hallicrafters receiver. Years later I picked up a Heathkit station at a church sale, but never really learned enough to get it on the air. Fast forward to 1991, when I passed my no-code tech and got on the air mainly with 2 meters and 440. I started with several handhelds and also a small mobile unit. I joined a local club "MADRAS" which stood for Maryland Apple Dumplings Radio Amateur Society. I remember a great group of people, several wonderful field day and meeting events. I picked up a used TS-430 but then life got in the way,  a move and a new house had all my gear boxed up for 10 years or so. In 2011, several of my non-ham friends decided to go to Dayton and invited me to join them. I accepted and decided to start to look at my gear again. I decided that if I got back in, I better upgrade, and so I started to study for my General and got back on the air. I also joined the Vienna Wireless Society and enjoyed the club members and events immensely. Well, I passed my General at Dayton Hamvention 2011, soon after bought a Ft-897D and got on the air. In 2012, we went to Dayton again and I study for and passed my Extra.

The funny thing is I had boxes and boxes of gear in the basement. I did not even remember buying a couple of the rigs and antennas. I now really enjoy this hobby and with the new found friends and elmers in the club have put together a decent station. My next goal (after going through everything I have and start to pair down to essentials) is to build a shack in the basement and reposition all my outdoor antennas.
