Hi! You're probably looking me up to try to confirm my callsign. I only transmit 50W so it's often a problem. Thank you a lot for making the effort!
I typically operate from either Montclair, NJ, or from New Haven, CT. Most of the time, in my QSOs, I'll mention what state I'm in. I also set the location on LotW so the QSOs can be credited to the correct state.
I love to exchange QSL cards! Unfortunately, I stopped when Covid became widespread, and now I have a bit of a backlog. Please email me if you'd like to skip the backlog and get my card soon. Otherwise, it will take a while. In the meantime, I will continue confirming electronically.
I got my General ticket in January 2015 and upgraded to Extra in April 2015. In July 2015 I got my Spanish callsign, EA1ITI, which I use when I'm not in the US. I was mostly silent from the end of 2015 to the middle of 2019 due to equipment failures, but now I'm back on the air and making contacts.
I operate either with a quarter-wave vertical (for 20 and 40 meters) or a half-wave dipole (for 20 meters). I feed this antenna with an Elecraft KX3 amplified by a Hardrock-50. I also have plenty of wire, tuners, and baluns/ununs to use improvised antennas.
I operate SSB almost exclusively. My farthest contacts on SSB are 3740 miles with 15 watts and 5160 miles with 50 watts.
In the past I've operated from Mountain View, CA, and from Brooklyn, NY. In California I used a lot of homebrew or kit-built equipment: a magnetic loop antenna, several SDR kits, and the Hardrock-50. I bought the KX3 after moving to Brooklyn, where I also started to use vertical antennas.
This is an old picture of my station in Brooklyn. My co-operator Emmeline is also pictured.
